Brighton Bag KAL

Ditch those disposable bags with us this summer and join our Knitty.com Brighton Bag KAL! Knitted bags are big right now and this one's a beauty - stylish enough for dressy occasions and sturdy enough to use when you're shopping. Our sample bag is knitted from AllHemp6 on a size US 6 needle, lined with cotton fabric and embellished with fancy leather handles. You can make yours the same way or try another yarn, like Hempathy, Euroflax linen or one of our yummy cottons - make it structured, or loose and stretchy to stuff full of summer goodies!

The knitting fun starts on June 9th and ends on our August 1 Knit Night. Bring your finished bag in then and we'll put up a lacy display of Brightons in the shop!

June Knit Nite

June 6 Knit Nite
6 - 9 pm

Your head will be spinning this month at Knit Night when Joni brings her fibery toys to tempt all you knitters who have thought about spinning but haven't tried it yet! You'll get a chance to see a wheel, two kinds of charkhas and several spindle types in action and you can get an impromptu spindling lesson if you're brave! If the mesmerizing whirling hypnotizes you, there will be classes this summer to turn you permanently dizzy!

Calm after the storm

Now that the LYS tour is over, we will all have a little more time to relax and reflect. At least that's the plan. I have the excuse of having had chemo this week but Victoria is at the shop, working away, picking up the slack for me. If you get a chance to stop by the shop this week, be sure to give her a pat on the back or a nice big hug for holding down the fort. She deserves it. :-)

Whilst whittling away the hours on my couch, I found this great post on a UK Ravelry group that I thought you might find inspiring - "Knit a River." What a great project!

I hope to visit I Knit when I'm in London this summer.

LYS Tour - Day 2: The 3 Debs

We have met so many wonderful people on the tour!! It's great to see new faces and here new stories. These nice women came in to the shop - one from Canada and one from Washington and both named Deb. Since I'm a Deb too so we started chatting. Then we noticed that we were all wearing the EXACT same color of shirts! (I'm trying very hard to ignore my double chin and I cropped the photo because I look like I'm 6 months pregnant. I have GOT to stop eating scones....)

Fun city. :-)

Mother's Day Ideas

That's right - Mom's day is this Sunday, for all you procrastinators (like my own kid). We have some really nice little gift ideas in our tea and yarn departments. How about a flowering tea pot or some of the individual flowering tea boxes? A nice tray, some jam, cookies, or new teapot perhaps? We have some pretty silk bags for notions or small projects. Maybe a knitting mystery or humorous book by Stephanie Pearl-McPhee would do the trick. A gift card is always a good idea. We also carry a wide variety of blank greeting cards.

We will be open on Mother's Day for regular tea and baked goods service (sorry, no high tea) and fiber shopping, of course. :-)

Done in by Plucky

It was a cold and rainy morning. I was running a little late and had my hands full of bags when I tried to push open the office door to lay down my burdens. There was resistance and I had to push a little harder to get into the room, only to find what was blocking my entry was a body! Not just any body, but the body of my business partner Victoria, flat out on the floor, covered in..... covered in....... Plucky Knitter's Merino Cash Nylon DK.  I wasn't sure if she had OD'd or just fainted from the overwhelming beauty of the colors but I had to get her up before she slipped into a fiber coma - the most dangerous of all craft related injuries. As I knelt down to assess her condition, I almost fell prey to the intoxicating deliciousness of the skeins but was able to pull back just in time. Fortunately for me, only two of the skeins managed to make their way into my bag before I was able to shake off the dizziness and get back to the work at hand.

If you care about me or any other VYT employee, you will come down here and take some of these skeins home so we can avoid this from ever happening again. Only YOU can prevent fiberoverdoses!
